Patna, March 1 (UNI) Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday reiterated his demand for special status for Bihar and expressed concern over indifferent attitude of Centre on the issue.

Kumar while replying to debate on thanks motion to the Governor for his address to the House on the opening day of the budget session, said that Bihar had performed well on various parameters of development despite its limited resources. The result could have been even better and Bihar would have marched far ahead on development, had the state given special status as being demanded since long, he noted.

" Those taking credit for good performance, had born in a developed state and worked there but the case of Bihar is totally different due to its poverty and backwardness", Chief Minister said while making an oblique reference to Gujarat where Narendra Modi was Chief Minister before becoming Prime Minister.

Kumar said that India could never become a developed nation unless all its parts progressed well. Concern of Bihar and other backward states should be taken into account by the Centre, he added.

Chief Minister also expressed concern for reducing its share by the Centre in Central government scheme. Centre had been continuously reducing its share in central government schemes which resulted in increasing financial burden on states, he pointed out.

Kumar said that the Bihar government was now giving 40 to 50 per cent share in various centre-sponsored schemes.

It was strange that the state government was giving its huge share in Centre sponsored schemes but the same was known as Central government schemes, he noted.
